Eva Bohnen about the rave me ep

This EP is quite personal to me, so you can take it as an ‘About Me’, EP. It also winks at a song by Nirvana, but I always refer to ‘Rave Me’, because I can’t get the original lyrics out of my mouth. And of course I have a preference for the good old school illegal raves, for me that is truly underground.

Neverending

The track Neverending is about that feeling you have at a rave and wishing it would never end. Neverending Story was also one of my favorite childhood movies. These two aspects came to mind while producing this track. The track is loopy, maybe has a bit of a sad lead synth, but with a hopeful answer. And the variation in the groove is an abstraction of what I remember after a good rave.

Rubellion

Rubellion is dedicated to my older brother who passed away a few years ago. The name Rubellion was his alias. He was indeed a bit of a rebel and he infected me with the love for raves and electronic music. We were very close when I was in my hardcore phase, so I tried to translate that into this track.

Rafelrand

I don’t know if there’s a good English expression for this concept, but it’s about the frayed edges of society, there where the raves happen. Outside that edge, life is hard. And on that edge, it’s about protest. So yeah, this is a harsh track that not everyone will be able to handle.

Fierceless

The word “fierceless” is a portmanteau of “fierce” and “fearless”. It describes the feeling this track gave me perfectly. The low end is deep and powerful and the synth takes you to a very percussive point in the track. For me this track is about meditation and finding that inner space where you feel no fear and get empowered. This track really comes from the depths of my soul.

Enchanted

To me this track embodies an enchanted forest. I loved fairies and fairy tales when I was young. For me this fantasy world came to life in the forest. I still love the forest and honestly the best raves are held there. This track is about things slowly coming to life, as if awakened by a spell. The combination with the off beat groove makes it the most dreamy track I produced so far.
